SERVICES AND PROGRAMS 

Shawnee Development Council is a non-profit Community Action Agency that has been serving Southernmost Illinois since 1965. We are committed to enabling individuals, families, and communities to access the resources they need to accomplish their goals. We offer services to those residing in Alexander, Hardin, Johnson, Massac, Pope, Pulaski, and Union Counties in Illinois.  We strive to make a meaningful and transformative difference in the lives of those we serve.
LOW INCOME HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (LIHEAP)

Provides energy conservation counseling and assistance with fuel and energy bills to eligible low income households. Emergency assistance may be available for households disconnected from an energy source or denied delivery of fuel.

WIOA PROGRAM

The WIOA Program assists low-income individuals with funding for occupational skills training. If you are eligible, WIOA can pay for tuition, fees and books. WIOA can also pay for supportive supplies, travel costs, and childcare reimbursement.

COMMUNITY FOOD DISTRIBUTION

Food pantries are operated in Union, Hardin, and Pope counties. In addition, the Commodity Supplemental Food Program distributes “senior boxes” monthly through the food pantries to eligible individuals 60 years of age or older who meet specific criteria in residency and income categories. Apply for the senior box service at your food pantry location.

Rental Housing Support Program (RHSP)

A rental subsidy program for extremely low income individuals. This program is conducted through a partnership with local landlords. Participants are served from a waiting list.
